Llon a Lleddf a Storiau Eraill
By Sara Maria Saunders
£8.99
This is a redaction of a selection of stories by Sara Mair Saunders (S.M.S) from Llon a Lleddf (1897), Y Diwygiad ym Mhentre Alun (1907), a Llithiau o Bentre Alun (1908). These stories highlight her ability to write and her interest in people especially ‘the New Woman’. In her day, S.M.S’s likeable and original characters became popular household names in Nonconformist Wales.
The author’s memories of her childhood in Llangeitho, Ceredigion are the basis of the stories in Llon a Lleddf that convey the effects of the great reform in 1858-9 on the imaginary comunity of Llanestyn. We then move on to Pentre Alun where S.M.S.’s memories of the past are turned into a celebration of the present as the Reformation of 1904-5 arrives ‘like a thunderstorm’, releasing the emosions and tongues of the local people and helping them to overcome poverty and extreme hardship through religion.
