Winnie Parry (1870-1953) was born in Welshpool and raised in Felinheli, but spent much of her life working in London. Nonetheless, she maintained strong Welsh links: she was a close friend of O.M. Edwards and was the long-term editor of Cymru'r Plant (Children's Wales). [bold:Sioned} (1906), 'a gem of a novel' according to the novelist Jane Edwards, is about a young, mischievous girl and her adventures against the backdrop of Nonconformist, agricultural Caernarvonshire in the nineteenth century.

Winnie Parry was adept at creating a strong narrative, delineating an attractive character and also had an ear for lively, natural dialogue. 'I was charmed at once by its substance', said O.M. Edwards about the novel, 'I thought her style was beautiful, her taste pure, and that it breathes life.' The introduction and new edition are by Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan and Kathryn Hughes, specialists in women's history and their contribution to Welsh cultural history.
